On Sunday, another beautiful day, we enjoyed a different type of cherry blossom experience.
Mike's co-workers organized a family picnic event in Kyoto Imperial Park. The park is very large and spread out and there was plenty of room for our games of tag, tree climbing and frisbee. A lot of people brought their kids, and Jacob and Lauren made fast friends.
Before heading there, we had again purchased bento lunches at Kyoto Station. Some had brought impressive home-made bento boxes, and we had quite the array of Japanese snacks to lay out as we spread a whole bunch of tarps out under a nice looking cherry tree. We spent the afternoon at leisure, just hanging out, playing with the kids, and enjoying the day. It was a great group and we had a great time.
Back at Rokko Island later in the day, we enjoyed some family time hanging out with Matthew and Abe. Matthew is leaving tomorrow, flying back to Philadelphia, and Abe will be moving on to Tokyo tomorrow, before heading home on Wednesday. We're all sad to see them go, but are glad we had such a nice visit.

It looks like a wonderful time was had by all. Really nice. Who are all the folks in the picnic pic? I especially like the teenage 'look' of the young girl at the center front of the photo! PINK socks!
And you can tell me...what did you DO to Lauren's hair??
The folks were my co-workers and their kids.
Lauren's crimped hair frizzle-explosion was caused by having tightly braided pigtails in all day and then taking them out. Pretty cool, huh?
