Origami

Ilena took an Origami class last week. Here is her origami menagerie:

What an amazing art form - its hard to imagine how people came up with the intricate folding patterns! Clearly we are still beginners...check out the amazing origami you can find just browsing around.

Very cool origami. It reminded me of a mockumentary on origami by a Japanese comedy group called The Ramens:

Do a search for "Japan Culture Lab" on Youtube to see more stuff by The Ramens. The clips on sushi and Japanese apologies are excellent.

Also, FYI, I heard the Origami Kaikan in Tokyo can make for a fun visit with kids:

Keep up the great posts! Always fun to see what you're up to.

It seems Google doesn't want to accept my request to change the "Robert" tag to "Bob", so I thought I should leave you another comment to let you know the one above was from me.

Say hi to Jacob and Lauren from us. Sorry we'll miss you over Golden Week.

Origami - it's fascinating and so theraputic. Coincidentally, I was doing some origami this weekend, sitting at my dining table in Dawesville, Western Australia - sadly such a long way from Japan. This time last year we were in Kyoto. Thank you for sharing your experiences and making the distance seem just a little less vast :-)

Thanks Bob (we knew it was you -- love the Ramens clip. So funny.)

Semsav - Thanks for reading! If you make it back to Japan before we leave, be sure to look us up!

Thank you! Would love to. We might make it back this year - still hoping!
