We just spent the weekend in Sapporo, Hokkaido for the 2009 Sapporo Snow Festival. We have lots of great stuff to share with you all. We saw the giant snow sculptures and a giant ski jump (snowboarders, actually) in Odori Park, we played in the snow (tubing, rafting, sliding) at the Tsudome site, and we browsed through out the smaller ice sculptures in Susukino. We ate amazing melt-in-your-mouth sushi at Nijo Fish Market. We warmed up on Ramen in Ramen Alley. And we took a side-trip to a cute town that specializes in music boxes and glass-blowing. It was a packed weekend! But it's going to take a few days to sort through and have the time to post our pictures. In the meantime, here are a couple of family shots from Odori:

You went to Hakodate then? I'm jealous. Can't wait to see more of what you did.
No. Sadly it was too far away for our weekend trip to fit in. We spent two days in Sapporo and our last day in Otaru.
Looks like a fun weekend... even if there was snow. My husband would love it up there!
incredible!
Lucky you! I've always wanted to get up to that festival!
Who built all of the ice sculptures?? Like that pagoda -- but a pagoda is Chinese, right? So what do the Japanese call it?? Totally amazing. And that ramen alley. Wow. How did you even choose? Is your next trip Bali? When is that?
