Happy Almost Setsubon

February 3rd is the holiday of Setsubon, a celebration of the changing of the seasons from winter to spring. (Hooray!).

The big Setsubon ritual is the throwing of beans and the shouting of "Oni wa soto. Fuku wa uchi!" (Demons out! Luck in!) The picture above is an example of an Oni (demon), though the ones you see on all the signs in the stores are much cuter! Here is one from the building that Mike works in:

It's also popular to eat a huge uncut sushi roll, called nori maki. We did partake in this tradition:

Meanwhile, the kids were visited by a mystery teacher dressed up as an oni, whom they got to bombard with beans while shouting "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi! at. Good times....

I bet that teacher will think twice about showing up to jacob's class after witnessing his cannon-like arm.

Great pics and videos of the kids over your last few posts. When do we see a video of Ilena and Mike out and about? I bet you guys do humurous things too!
